About us

Early settlers used the waterways and later rail for trading and supplies. Georgetown is in the midst of the historic Harrisonburg Road (connected to the Natchez Trace in early America and the Spaniards' El Camino Real in Texas).

The Missouri Pacific Railroad was built through this area by Jay Gould under the name Iron Mountain and Southern Railroad. The Louisiana and Arkansas Railway was built in 1901. So Georgetown's depot was long a cross roads of activity.

Much of the area long subsisted on sawmills in the early 1900s and oil in the 1920s. As time passed, so did the economic attraction of these activities.

With highway and rail, the community's location has allowed that though the 'boom times' have passed, our community continues as a quiet peaceful place for home and family.
